So, here goes. I guess I'm now officially a "blogger", and my pages are going to grow with zillions of topics. This page is about "The Bachelor" TV program and the silliness of it all.

AFTER THE ROSE CEREMONY - It was hard to juggle watching "American Idol" and "The Bachelor" at the same time. I managed to catch glimpses of some of the other women who vied for the attention of Andy Baldwin. Stephanie Yuck, unfortunately was there (waffle, waffle, waffle); Amber was quite sweet, but it was so nice to see Danielle all composed and serene. They had a question for him, and that was that. No hordes of rejected women all moaning and groaning. Bevin also had a chance to ask Andy what was what. She eloquently told her side of the story and was believable. She seems very nice although still a little emotional.
Doc Baldwin looked tanned and happy but I didn't know how much he enjoyed regurgitating the past couple of months. He looked a little uncomfortable at times, especially when talking with Bevin, and showed his emotions too. She thanked him for a wonderful experience and said that he taught her how to take a risk and she got a few hugs. She had no regrets and that was nice to hear.
Tessa came on and was swept off her feet, literally, by Andy. We watched her journey on the show and afterwards Andy shed a few tears. It was nice to hear her side of the story. They couldn't stop stealing kisses and hugs - so sweet, and he couldn't say enough nice things about her. She's moving to Hawaii in the next few weeks so this all looks real.
To round things off, Chris gave them a trip to the Inca Trail in Peru, so that they could duplicate Tessa's parents' falling in love there. (They are now divorced, I have to add.) A nice roundup and a nice season, for a change. Good job to the (new) producers for not making this another drunk and slut fest.

The Finale. A two-hour show which I had been looking forward to. And no tornado watch last night, thankfully. My hopes were still with Tessa.
We had a brief look back at the women's journey to become the last two standing. Tessa's journey was difficult and emotional but I'm glad she stuck it out because there's definitely a connection. There is one with Bevin, very obviously, but I do hope he chooses Tessa. It could go either way I had to keep reminding myself.
He took them both to Lancaster, PA to meet his family, and a nice family it appeared to be. Of course both women were nervous and it showed. Amish country is so pretty and I wished we could have seen more. Tessa was first to arrive and she was friendly and personable with his family. His mom thought she was so beautiful, and she helped mama with lunch. Grandpa asked her about religious affiliations. His sister also really liked Tessa and she asked her about her doubts about being on the show, and a few other questions.
Bevin's visit was much the same - questions from everyone at the dining room table and Andy definitely was more animated when around Bevin. Dad asked her what she does and grandpa perked up when she mentioned "sexual dysfunction" in women in menopause. Grandpa asked her about religion too. Bevin thought his family may perceive her as too "liberal". Mom asked her questions and there were lots of laughs. Andy was all over Bevin, as usual, so it was hard to see him picking Tessa.
After Bevin left, it was a family discussion time - good, constructive advice and viewpoints. He was just as confused as ever. Next it was back to Hawaii for a final date and a last chance to convince him that they're the one. The scenery in Hawaii was gorgeous.
Bevin was first and they were all over each other. They went in a helicopter (I couldn't stand her nervous laughter which I thought was over done) over the exquisite ocean and mountains. He looks totally in love with Bevin and he told her he loved her! I think he fell in love (the term loosely used) with her way back when she showed him her scars. She gave him a watch as a present to represent the time that stands still when she's with him. Then he told her again that he loved her. Oh my goodness. I had to hope that he wouldn't be fickle enough to dump her. I was almost in tears. It didn't look as though Tessa stood a chance.
With Tessa he went horseback riding on the beach and had a swim in the sea. Again, lots of touching and kissing. Their evening was spent chatting and opening up to each other. It wasn't as though he was all over her like he was with Bevin. Her present to him was a collage of pictures of the two of them on their dates. She told him all he wanted to hear and told him that she loved him. He also told her he "freakin' loved her". Mmmm. He left her room a happy man.
Now, how could he possibly let one go? Who would he let go? I felt so sad for whomever it was going to be. Both women seem genuine and honest and it was going to be an excruciatingly difficult decision for the doc to make. He went shopping for a diamond engagement ring and everyone was primping and prepping for the big moment. The tension was unbearable and I didn't want to cry and get emotional. I wouldn't feel so bad if Tessa won. Not that I don't like Bevin, I kind of do, but I prefer Tessa more.
First to arrive was Bevin and they looked deep into each other's eyes. Bevin started to cry before he finished what he had to say, and he was almost in tears and couldn't get out what he wanted to say. It wasn't going to be her. Poor girl, she was very disappointed (she didn't look heartbroken) and I could imagine her hurt. She didn't say anything to him. He walked her to the car and then she spoke for the first time, to the camera, as she was driven away, crying. I did get a lump in my throat.
Then, finally, it was Tessa's turn and we knew what was going to happen next. Yay, Tessa won. I had hoped so from the beginning. It was over so quickly. He went down on bended knee and asked her to marry him. The happy couple come back tonight to tell all.
I enjoyed this series as it got on with things - no drawn out dates and recaps and the bachelor facing all the women. A much more civilized series. Just like this bachelor is. I had to wonder if there had been a personnel shift on the show - gone was all the cattiness and sluttiness. Which is how it should be.

Last night it was off to Hawaii for the last three ladies. My goodness, his bod is so spectacular - did you see him surfing? The ladies were treated to a patriotic tour of his life in Hawaii. It started with a Pearl Harbor tour with Bevin. Danielle was next and she was impressed. Tessa followed and she was visibly moved. I loved that a little girl joined them when they were tossing flowers to the lost souls. The scenery was just breathtaking. He took Tessa to Kaua'i and they zip-lined across a lush and green ravine. It looked exhilarating. As much as he likes Tessa, I still get the feeling that she's hesitant. He was so ecstatic about his "backyard", and it was pretty romantic. He couldn't stop kissing and touching her. At the end of their date, he offered her the Fantasy Suite invitation, which she happily accepted. She told him she wants things to be real which is why she took so long. At last, she's out of her shell.
Danielle's date was out at sea and they saw dolphins and whales. Then they swam in the sea with the fish - incredible - kissing all the time. A psychic once told Danielle something that made her feel Andy was the one. He definitely has a huge attraction to her. In the evening they had dinner outdoors and he had arranged for a psychic to give them readings. Lots of nurturing in her life. Has some sadness about loss - apprehension. He had to let go of fear in order to make his choices. Danielle said she was ready to fall in love again which Andy enjoyed hearing. She also got the Fantasy Suite invitation which she agreed to. More kissing and I think she might be the lucky one.
I then missed the rest of the show as it was interrupted by Channel 13 (southern Colorado) because of a possible tornado warning. It was overkill because it went on ad nauseum for about 40 minutes. It wasn't that serious but they kept switching from the rain chart, to the dew chart, to the red and yellow patches - I've never seen such exaggerated on and on and on babble. Our weatherman repeated himself ad infinitum. It was so over the top with this data, that data, over and over and over and over, I could have screamed. Enough! Some people just don't know when to shut up. They love the sound of their own voices and are full of their own importance. What's wrong with a quick break into a program and a crawl script along the bottom of the screen, like other stations do? Jeez. I didn't get to see who got a rose.
Shock! I couldn't believe when I read the next day that it was Danielle he let go. They seemed so real. I honestly can't see him marrying Bevin (maybe I can) so I'm going with Tessa - can't believe I picked three of the last four! I think he's besotted with them both but maybe more with Tessa. We get to see the entire 90 minutes this Saturday - Thank you CH13.

With visits to the four remaining women's hometowns, what could possibly change his mind about one woman?
First it was off to Bevin's hometown of Seattle to meet her family. She had something to tell Andy - and when she told him that, he looked so horrified and dreaded her "news". She'd been married before. But he was accepting and understanding. I think he could fall for this woman but her divorce may just change everything. Her family consisted of her mom, her dad, and her stepmother, and her sister. Yes, I said stepmother. He felt at home and he even got a painting her mom gave him. The dad was a little too weepy and pitiful for my liking.
Danielle's hometown visit was next, and it was off to Connecticut to meet her family. Mom, pop, and sister. I could see him with Danielle and her family. Mmmmm. Her dad played the drums for Andy and everyone seemd to like the doctor. There was even some belly dancing with Danielle's sister and mother. Dad was happy with Andy but Danielle did mention how far away Hawaii is. Grow a spine.
Andy's next hometown visit was to Tessa's in Washington DC. After a day of messing about, it was off to meet everyone. Mom, dad, her sister, and her best friend. He was grilled by all. He felt that if her family didn't approve of him, that would be it. It looked a little awkward for Andy. So, he had his own questions and asked if Tessa was on the show for the right reasons. Dad said Tessa was going on the show for fun. That answer was not good enough for Andy. Silly old fart - should have keep his mouth shut. Then the doc asked everyone else if she was serious. He wasn't sure that Tessa wanted to be with him and what her feelings really were. And he asked her directly. He digs her.
His last visit was to Sugar Land, Texas, Amber's hometown. He arrived at her school and met her students. He was very diplomatic when answering one of the kid's questions about how he met their teacher. She too, had something to tell him. Her parents weren't around so he was to meet her aunt and uncle. Her parents were against her going on the show. He aunt declined at the last minute and this upset Amber. He was sympathetic and they had dinner at her apartment with Amber's roommate. Then he met her dog, who "had to approve". Say no more. Too young for him I say. A knock on the door brought her aunt to visit after all.
So, the rose ceremony wasn't going to be easy. This poor man, honorable as he is, will have to hurt someone's feelings. Back at the mansion, everyone was tense and nervous. (The worst dress ever, was worn by Danielle. It was SO horrible and bright, and I could see her belly button. I HATE satin.) The first rose went to Tessa. The second one to Bevin, and the last one to Danielle. Amber was to leave and she didn't look too happy. He discreetly walked her out and answered her "why" question, saying that it was her youth he was worried about. I liked his honesty and clarity.
Next week they're off to Hawaii to see how the doctor lives, works, and plays.

So, I surprised myself. I actually looked forward to last night's show because I think this guy is the real thing. Finally, someone with integrity. With only six women left, things were bound to get spacey.
This week they all went out on a yacht. Bevin convinced the doc to take a paddle in kayaks out on the sea with her, luring him away from the others. A rather blah group date but tensions are being tested a bit at this stage.
It was Stephanie W who got a one-on-one date and they went wine tasting and blended their own wine. They also got to design their own label for their wine bottle. Stephanie wasn't very forthcoming about her answers which made her look somewhat dumb and immature. He tried.
The group date was with Amber, Tina, Bevin, and Danielle, leaving the other one-on-one date to Tessa. Bevin wasn't too happy and told the camera that she was divorced and she wasn't going to get a chance to tell him. She was also concerned about Andy being interested in 23 year olds, and she had regrets about why she was on the show.
The date was to upgrade an elementary school yard. They painted, cleaned up, planted, and more. He wanted to see how interested they were in giving back to the community and how they felt about children. No one struck me as actually connecting with Andy. Then the kids were let loose onto their new playground to enjoy their handiwork. It was a lovely moment and the doc loved seeing how the women interacted with the children.
Tessa's date was the "Pretty Woman" date, complete with the $2M jewelry and a trip to Nicole Miller's store for an evening dress. She became the envy of the other women. Tessa really opened up and relaxed so much, for the first time. They had a very romantic dinner and had fun together. They even kissed out on the rooftop. The doc was deliriously happy she was being herself, finally.
Back at the house, Bevin was losing it. She's becoming too needy for my liking. She and Amber went into Andy's secret room and snooped. Now who's being childish, Bevin? Not very becoming at all.
The rose ceremony was a little tense with Andy actually waiting for the women to let him know that they want to be with him. He heard it from everyone. He gave the first rose to Bevin, the second one to Amber, the third to Tessa, and the final one to Danielle, thus sending home Tina and Stephanie W. Neither showed that they had a loving and "open" side which is what he was looking for. I still think Tessa is the one.
Right from the get-go I picked Tessa or Amber (I fluctuated a little about Bevin) to perhaps win, and with them in the last four, I think I made a pretty good call. Now it's trips to meet Tessa's family, Amber's family, Bevin's family, and Danielle's family. Can't wait for the divorce announcement.

Well, well, well, this series is turning out to be okay. The girls aren't as bitchy as they have been in the past, and the bachelor is quite dashing and decent. Makes a change.
The pain of the bunch is definitely Stephanie Yuck. With all her confidence and being so full of herself, she didn't even know where Lake Tahoe was. Oregon? Kate was also stirring things up and being obnoxious. And poor Bevin wasn't going to be able to take advantage of the activities and had a meltdown. Hey, it's not about what you can do.
The nine women left were divided into two group dates - Danielle, Nicole, Stephanie Kansas, and Bevin, and Tessa, Stephanie Yuck, Kate, and Tina, leaving the individual date for Amber, who was feeling vulnerable and became so irritating as she was constantly asking what she should wear, about her makeup, what she should eat. Me, me, me. They were all flown by private jet to Lake Tahoe.
The first group went to a hotel overlooking the lake and beautiful scenery. Bevin was a little pathetic and weepy (a plot?) and Andy took her aside to reassure her, let her cry, and they kissed. The other women were speculating and nervous. They also all had a trip to the casino before Stephanie Kansas also had some alone time with the doc. She too, was looking sad and down but cheered up quickly. Danielle interrupted and separated them, chatted and kissed Andy. However, it was Bevin the doc took to his room after the date, carrying her no less, and you could feel the chemistry. I think this is the one.
The second group date went skiing which also involved some tattletales, which Andy emphatically did not like. Tessa started the talk of the tension and of her doubts. Stephanie Yuck said her piece and talked badly about the other women. Then Kate had a chat with Andy and talked about Amber and Stephanie Yuck. His quality time was with Tina, finally, and he was complimentary to her but I didn't feel any chemistry between them.
Before Amber's date, she was really becoming too much and drove the others completely nuts with her obsessing. They went to a beautifully romantic snow cabin and had a fondue in front of a roaring fire. He confronted her about the gossip he heard. Then they enjoyed a hot tub smooch and he gave her the rose.
Back at the hotel, the girls talked and Stephanie Yuck's over-confidence was sickening, and no, her dress was not "smokin' hot" - it was slutty. She told Andy that Amber was not the one for him. Everyone managed to have a chat with him pre-rose ceremony. Kate said that Tina told her that Amber nearly had sex with Andy. Who would have believed that Tina, of all the women, would have said something like that? Tessa's feelings weren't that solid and she was honest about it. He really seems as though he is a gentleman and has morals and standards. I'd be very disappointed if he gives Stephanie Yuck a rose - it's time this woman goes home - she's just trouble.
At the rose ceremony, he gave the first rose to Tessa. Next was Danielle, Bevin, Tina, and Stephanie Kansas. Yay! Good judgement young man. You're not fooled. I like ya. With the insignificant Nicole (what on earth did she do to stay on the show?), the horrendous Stephanie Yuck, and catty Kate gone, let the show begin. However, I think I was wrong about Amber - people eventually show you their true colors and I don't think she'll last beyond next week. I have fluctuated terribly on this series but I think Bevin will be the one who wins his heart.

I think this bachelor is by far the most appealing of them all. He comes across as sincere and of good character. Last night he had to sift through the remaining twelve women and had ten roses to give out.
It was boot camp early in the morning, as a sample of what Andy's world is like. A drill instructor put them through their paces and he was to choose one worthy of a rose. Some women hated the exercises, while some enjoyed it. Bevin put her heart and soul into it but tripped in the tires, thinking she broke her ankle. Doc Andy diagnosed a "displaced fracture of her left ankle" and she was whisked off to the hospital with the doctor riding shotgun in the ambulance. For her trouble, Andy gave her a rose and she came back with a stunning new watch. Stephanie Yuck (T) looked positively teed off.
The evening was divided into two group dates and a two-on-one date. The first group date was to be a spa and a mud bath. Stephanie Yuck was a total pain, dominating Andy's every move, throwing herself all over him. He chose the other Stephanie (W) for some one-on-one time and they had a massage, with Stephanie giving him a massage as well. The other Stephanie was knocked off her perch. I was hysterical.
The second group date involved race cars and speed, and Erin surprised Andy by saying she loved race cars and shooting guns. This perked Andy up somewhat. But, when it came to driving, she didn't know how to drive a manual transmission. Should have seen than coming. Ditz. For his one-on-one date he chose Erin. Oh my god. He's so attacted to her and wanted to get to know her better. A little whiney and silly I thought.
It was Peyton and Tessa who enjoyed a cosy two-on-one date, which also meant that one would get a rose and one would go home. They had a fun time on board an aircraft carrier in San Diego and toured the ship to get to see Andy's work environment. They had dinner on deck and each had a chat with the doc. Both seemed nice and neither one threw themselves at him which made a nice change. Tessa got the rose leaving poor Peyton out in the cold. Even I was a little sad to see her go.
There's not much bitchiness this season, which is pleasant, but it also makes for a rather boring series. Bevin got the only kiss of the night. At least this bachelor hasn't been slobbering over all the women or groping all of them at every opportunity. So far he seems to really be a gentleman. And all the women behaved themselves, with the exception of Stephanie Yuck. She pouted and took a serious knock to her overflowing confidence.
The final rose ceremony saw Andy choose Amber, Danielle, Stephanie W, Tina (whoops, after her body language I didn't think she'd be chosen), Kate, Nicole (she looks like a frightened child at times), and Stephanie Yuck. Erin and Amanda had to leave. I think Danielle has a good chance of winning his heart, as do I feel about Tessa and Amber. I didn't think Tina would last the night and neither did I think Stephanie Yuck would - I thought Andy was onto something when he said he didn't know if she was in this for the right reasons (words to that effect). He might just be smarter than we thought!

Oh Lord, here we go again. I could easily slap myself and tell myself to leave this alone. This dude seems too good to be true, having all the attributes of an eligible young doctor. And this doctor dances!
To get the ball rolling, the doc chose Stephanie T for the only individual date, leaving two group dates, and setting the girls off, knowing they weren't the lucky one.
The first group date was to the Sunset Strip with seven women, and they were off to do some bull riding. He admitted he was turned on watching these women on the mechanical bull. The other Stephanie (Kansas) was the only one not to fall off the bull, and he chose her for some one-on-one time. He being an ironman triathlete, is obviously going to go for the more athletic of the bunch. After this it was off to choose evening dresses and to meet him by a rooftop pool. Bevin was the first one to gripe that she was being left out. Of course the drinks were flowing but thankfully, throughout the night, no one seemed to disgrace themselves. Tiffany got the extra special one-on-one time with the doc at the end of the evening, and they took off in a limo but she seemed distant and guarded and not very forthcoming.
The second group date involved the women doing athletic things - a mini triathlon no less. Hardly very romantic but it seemed appropriate. Erin reminded me of a young Dolly Parton, minus the large chest. Before they got started, they had mimosas, then had breakfast, and then started to swim. Tina took him aside and made sure he knew she'd just done her orthopedics. He was impressed with this very intelligent woman.
He wants a woman who doesn't mind getting her hair wet and having her make-up run. No one looked particularly overjoyed at the prospect of a mini-triathlon but Amber won the race and the one-on-one date. They made a good match. Meanwhile, Erin and Susan held hands and walked the swim race so as not to get their bleached-blond locks all messy and wet.
The final date was the one-on-one date with the positively putrid Stephanie T. So full of herself, parading her possible date outfits to the other women, and was a complete pain in the butt. Far too confident (she's 95% sure) she'll get a rose. They went out on a yacht where she was giggly and she drags her voice with the pseudo I've-got-a-gravelly-voice syndrome so many women have these days. This woman is playing him to a tee. I don't see any warmth or any "connection". The way she flaunted her rose when she came home to the mansion, and then eavesdropped on the others talking about her, and then feigning "oh woe is me" as she tossed herself onto her bed, was just too much.
Much as I expected, the other women bitched behind closed doors. Thankfully there wasn't extensive imbibing of alcohol and no one seemed inebriated. There were a few of the fifteen women who couldn't work out how many were going home if one already had a rose and he had eleven roses to give out.
The rose ceremony was preceded by a whirlwind of catch-up chat-a-ramas. The "twins" (Erin and Susan) are so deluded it's frightening. They even said they were soulsisters. I feel confident they'll live happily ever after with each other if they're two of the three booted off. I felt Tina put herself on the endangered list when she told Andy she'd be okay if she went home. And Tessa was having second thoughts about why she was there.
Those to get roses, I went with Amber, Alexis, and Peyton for starters. The rest I felt were on shaky ground. The doc chose Tessa, Danielle, Bevin, Amber, Stephanie (Kansas), Kate, Nicole, Tina, Peyton, Amanda, and Erin (What!!). So going home was Tiffany, accompanied by Susan and Alexis. Good enough.
To win, I'd have to go with Amber as perhaps the winner. I don't like Stephanie T's chances of becoming the doctor's wife - I think she'll be found out.

April 3rd, 2007 (read upwards)
Oh my god, I'm so pathetic. I'm so weak. I and everyone else that is. I didn't want to watch another bunch of desperately dorky women and one romantically-challenged man. A Navy doctor no less. That's even more pathetic. I have to seriously wonder what his paycheck for this series was. It had to be unbelievably good or why else would he do it? Surely not for love.
The first episode is difficult to comment on as there are so many women and just too much going on. Say, ladies, wouldn't you think, much like the last bachelor/prince, that a Navy doctor who's also an ironman triathlete, would have potential partners lining up and that he could have his pick of them? I guess not. This "nice" guy really sounds like a catch. He's a doctor in the Navy, is moviestar handsome, has a superb body, and get this, he's stationed in Hawaii!
Lt. Dr. Andy Baldwin turned 30 last night, and he seems a credible individual.
The twenty five women exited their limosines and walked up to the bachelor to meet him, with some being a little forward and asking what the (impression) rose was all about. Duh. So, right off the bat there were those who were obviously not Navy wife material. However, Dr. Andy gave the rose to one of those who asked him. Naturally the women had all been drinking on their way to the mansion as they all arrived holding glasses.
The first evening is always a little chaotic but there were some women who stood out. And not in a good way. Like Lindsay. They found another Erica! She just couldn't help herself and she ran her mouth off nonstop, criticising other women like she was beauty queen material - not in a thousand years! Anytime a woman says "bring it on", she's no lady.
Another night at the mansion, another night of drunken bitchiness - on their first night. Lindsay was downright obnoxious and rather common. Saying that one of the contenders was "kind of heinous" is just plain stupid and unnecessary. Don't any of these women have any shame? It's such a bad reflection on American women. I am really shocked at how badly these young women behave on national television. I cringed at their crass, loud, and inebriated selves when they should have remained sober and in control if they want to attract the bachelor's attention. Loud and brassy is so tacky. Do they think that Andy won't ever see this footage? Just how stupid can you be?
I have to say that if this series is yet another booze cruise of broads trying to land the "gentleman", I'm not watching. I really mean it. I have a book to write and other blogs to write to waste my time on this drivel. Some of the things that went on include making a birthday cake without eggs and thinking you can substitute them with Tequila, and then icing it with your hands!; Bakeney getting completely legless and falling off her chair and slurring her words (unspeakable!); challenging him to pushups; singing the National Anthem to him, and more.
I know that beauty is skin-deep, but give me a break - this guy is dropdead gorgeous that nearly all of the women look downright plain.
I just know that I am going to repeat myself over and over ad nauseam, so I think I'll call it a day with "The Bachelor". I do like the Lieutenant very much but I'm embarrassed at the annoying behavior of attorneys, teachers, reps. etc. I wonder how they feel about their television debut in the conditions that they were - loud, drunk, childish, foul-mouthed, etc. Countless squats (very inelegant), pushups, flips, cartwheels - are they six years old? What next! However, he couldn't have been happier. Hey, he's a man. It's hard to choose a potential winner but from the remaining fifteen, I'll go out on a limb with Peyton (they shared a birthday), Amber, or Tessa winning his heart.
The raised eyebrows, scowls, and rolled eyes at the rose ceremony, said it all. Each one thinks they are better than the next. Lindsay barged out of there like a petulant child - cursing like a tramp because she didn't get a rose. She's just the type a naval doctor would choose, right? Where do they get these females? Thank heavens she is out of there - another week of her tantrums and uncalled for and unladylike behavior I couldn't take. Neither should I subject my intelligence to this bunch of lowlifes. Nuff said.

October 3, 2006 (read down)
Where do I start? By naming my favorite programs of course, which are: "Survivor"; "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"; American Idol (it's obvious I like reality TV, right?); Amazing Race; 48 Hours; 60 Minutes; 20/20; Cops (hilarious), and that's about it. I don't watch any other so-called reality shows but I do like the odd comedy and series. My least favorite show at the moment is "The Bachelor", and the reason I got started on my new blog page. In my opinion, this show is a complete waste of money which would be much better spent feeding starving children both here and abroad. Remember the $4M wedding they gave "The Bachelorette" Trista? It all but made me puke watching this grotesque waste of money, not to mention cringe in agony at the pretentiousness of it all - I don't know why I actually watched! The bridal couple got $1M, and $70,000 was spent on the wedding dress (criminal), $50,000 on her shoes (try and justify that!), and $5,000 for their cake (an obscene amount of money for a cake, for heaven's sake - they (ABC) could have bought a mobile home for some deserving family for that amount). Since then I vowed not to watch any more "Bachelor/Bachelorette" shows, but sadly, I did. Not the whole shows, just snippets.
What I fail to understand is how they get their subjects. You would think that a Firestone heir, a doctor, and the latest, an Italian prince (a Borghese no less! and a decent-looking fellow but doesn't speak Italian - go figure) would move in the social circles in which they would like to find a partner. My guess is that they (the TV studio) dangle a hard-to-turn-down offer with more (free) publicity than they could personally generate.
This latest abomination featured twenty five annoying and extremely undesirable women varying in ages between 22 and 34. Undesirable because they got drunk and could barely string together a sentence, acted like petulant children not being able to be the center of attention at all times (very childish), came on to the prince in most unattractive ways, and gossiped to each other about the other women, and all of this on national television no less, and, I balk at calling them ladies, so I'll refer to them as women.
I planned on picking out the ultimate winner and then only watching the last episode to see who actually won, but I was enthralled (why?) with the incredibly unladylike behavior and wanton lack of self-respect. Again, this boils down to what I continue to say that we cannot be and do what we want in this world. We have to know and accept our limits, despite that they say we shouldn't put limits on ourselves. Be realistic. Can a one-legged man ever hope to run a four-minute mile even though that's what he wants to do? Can a tone-deaf singer ever be a top-notch opera singer even though that's what they want to be? Know your limitations and be realistic and you won't be as disappointed when you discover something is not for you. It's not the end of the world admitting you chose wrongly; next time you'll choose wisely, and learn.
Watching these women guzzle down drinks in the limousine en route to meeting their prince, screaming and cackling, was unbearable. One would think they'd leave their "common side" at home and be on their best behavior when wanting to impress a potential husband. Are they really so stupid as to think that a potential husband would be attracted to a boozed-up ditz? I mean, really. Watching them glare, snarl, stare, laugh at, and berate each other was shameful to say the least. I don't care if it brings in the viewers, this kind of behavior is not encouraging people (women especially) to have any self-respect. It's not becoming either - it's degrading.
October 10, 2006
Okay, okay, I admit I watched the second episode of "The Bachelor", but mostly out of curiosity. I guess the TV stations don't care what excuse one uses, just as long as we watch their programs. So, I readied myself for an hour of amazement and laughter (I don't usually laugh at other people unless they're in a comedy) with twelve women vying for the heart of one man. The first thing that really got to me was the childish and spoiled brat behavior of the 23-year-old Texas socialite. "...and I'm going to hate her" she whimpered at the thought of not getting a rose and having to go home. Don't get me started on her dowdy and frumpy dresses she wears. And her ratty and unkempt hair. And what's with the tiara? A little presumptuous, no?
On the first group date with five women, they all got to pick out a dress and also rode scooters through the streets of Rome. On this date, riding Vespas through the streets, the socialite hitched a ride with the prince, felt his abs, and then went on to tell him about her first sexual experience. Very dignified. Later, she went on to say that she judges people and that one of the contestants wouldn't be a good match for him because she didn't go to college and that she likes to be able to converse with "educated" people (doesn't it matter if the person is interesting?), that's she's a true princess (yeah, right), and the others don't deserve to get a rose. If she wasn't the laughing stock back home last night, there's no hope for us humans.
So, one had a solo date and turned out to be just as catty as the others (and later uttering to Lorenzo as they walked past two others, "Those two, mmmm, never, never", and was brought to tears when they later confronted her). She told the others of her mapped out "love plan" where in two years she'd be this, and in three years that, and in five years, married. Then, while on their date, Lorenzo mentioned that he didn't want to plan his life which made his date's eyes nearly pop out of their sockets. You could see her bubble burst. Puh-leeze. Meantime, back at the villa, the women were acting like giggling girls, asking each other about when they lost their virginity. What the dickens has that got to do with anyone else? On television, no less! It was refreshing to learn that there was a virgin among the bunch.
The second group date, with six women, was a helicopter trip to the beach where one promptly drank too much, slurred her words, and slumped over in a coma-like state on a beach chaise longue. Upon waking up, she thought Lorenzo was the waiter.  Nice, just the kind of "lady" you want to bring home to meet the family. At this stage, I have to go with Jennifer winning as she seems the most natural of the lot.
The rose ceremony brought out some really shining examples of ladylike behavior. One dragged him off away from two others he was chatting to, two stole into his bedroom and went through his things, one passed out, again, and Lorenzo loved it all. He even admitted to loving being called "baby". Oh, I get it: this is why he's "The Bachelor". Gotcha. The Italian woman mentioned to him that "The American girls are crazy" and that they scream and jump around. Later, the socialite's comments were, "He's not a commoner and he definitely needs me". And when she got the sixth and final rose, she said, "You made a really good decision" and was beaming. Can you credit that? I really thought she was going home, and I think she did as well. Thankfully she didn't have to hate anyone. Gina's frowns, gnarls, grimaces, and upturned smiles are hilarious and reminiscent of a two-year-old about to throw a tantrum. She, too, received a rose. The mind boggles.
Apparently next week involves a $2M diamond necklace. I don't think I'll tune in.
October 17, 2006
What a painful one hour last night was. With just nine women left, they were split into three - a group date of six, a two-on-one date, and one individual date. An opera teacher came to "coach" the women and the "best" one would go on the individual date with the prince. Now, what difference in this huge world does it make if you can even sing, let alone sing opera, to be considered for a date? Anyway, Jami won even though she couldn't hold a note (the best of a bad bunch) and what followed was pure puke-a-rama. She wore a magnificent red outfit, complete with long white gloves, and was presented with a stunning diamond and ruby necklace and earrings for the night. How original. It was nicked right out of "Pretty Woman's" opera scene. It was her first opera and they were serenaded and danced (neither could dance) to Vittorio's vocals. Lorenzo said that this was the most romantic night of his life (where has he been hiding?) but said that he felt he was dancing with his friend. So, Jami didn't get a rose. Meanwhile, back at the villa, the socialite said that Jami was not compatible and that her dress just covered her tattoos. Bitchy, bitchy.
The second date was a day out in Tuscany with Gina, Lisa, Desiree, Sadie, Jennifer, and Jeannette. When I saw they went wine-tasting, I held my breath for a second but thankfully, there weren't (that we could see) any drunk visions. Jeannette took him aside as they hadn't spent much time alone and they chatted which was quite pleasant.
Around the pool later that night, Sadie whisked him away and told him she was a virgin to which he replied that he'd never dated a virgin before. Then Lisa shuffled him off and he asked if he could kiss her, which he did, and said he wanted to kiss her again. Maybe he really fancies this woman but they don't seem to click on screen and I can't see the connection, despite Lisa's "love plan" still in motion. She's a little too cocky and confident at this stage. After more drinking and body shots off Lorenzo's stomach and Truth or Dare games (again, just the kind of ladies you want to bring home to the folks), he had some alone time with Jennifer.
The last two-on-one date was with Erica and Agnese - it was a One Rose One Date One Goes setup. Erica was very patronizing towards the Italian woman and said that "she was the least attractive girl in the house". Agnese said she was crazy and not very beautiful. I agree. Instead of going out on the town, he decided that they would hang out at his place and they could wear anything they wanted. Thankfully Erica changed because the garb she was wearing wasn't very flattering (I guess she didn't have her personal dresser along with her) as she doesn't have very pretty legs and should not have worn a short skirt. And as for her hair, the less said, the better. She went on to tell him that "no one else can do the job" (I'm assuming the job of princess) and that Agnese "was a gold digger" and went on to run everyone else down. She unabashedly said she was seven notches up from everyone else and that none of this was a novelty to her because she'd been to Rome before, flown in a helicopter before, yawn, and on and on. Agnese got a HUGE kiss and she also got the rose.
Lorenzo walked Erica out, listening to her two-year-old-about-to-have-a-tantrum whine about how "every guy I've ever been out with", "I'm pretty and smart and come from a priviledged background", kvetch, kvetch, what a baby! She didn't stop moaning and groaning until he turned and walked away from the car.
So, with only the rose ceremony remaining, this episode went quickly, thankfully. Gina's face was priceless - like a little kid with a wobbly mouth and chin about to cry because they're not going to get their own way. Boo hoo. When Desiree got a rose (no, come on, what is this man thinking?), Gina nearly had an apoplexy. She didn't get a rose and had to leave. But, she left wearing a most beautiful evening gown. Then, just when I thought it was all over with for another week, who should be featured in the promo for next week's episode? Can you guess?
OH. MY. GOD. Erica comes back!
October 24, 2006
Well, thankfully, last night's hour wasn't too painful and neither did it take that long. Six women and four roses which meant that the last four women get to take the prince home to meet the folks. The process of elimination began with the women being asked two questions: "Who is the least deserving?" and "Who is the most insincere girl in the house?" That's an invitation for the claws to come out (I guess that's what television people do, right?), and they did. Most of the women said Lisa was both insincere and the least deserving (psst, they don't like her), and Lisa had the gall to say that "Jennifer isn't that well spoken". Catty, catty, catty! But, the kicker was that Erica had come back to "judge" (she does it so well) the answers, unbeknownst to the women. She uttered, "It takes a princess to know one". After they'd answered their questions, Erica came bounding into the room wearing an insipidly pale pink dress (imagine it, with her yucky blond hair and white legs - gawd!) with what looked like a 90-year-old woman's night/bed shawl, and said, "What's up, bitches? I'm back". You could hear a collective thump as the women's jaws all hit the ground. Of course the tiara was also perched on her head. She decided that Sadie's answers won her the solo date with Lorenzo which was a personally piloted plane ride and then dinner. Over dinner Sadie initiated a kiss and "made it easy" for Lorenzo, which he liked. Once again her virginity was mentioned (she doesn't have to hammer the message home at every opportunity - we all know, as I'm sure does Lorenzo, that traditionally a prince marries a virgin). She got a rose.
The next date was a group date with Jeannette, Lisa, Agnese, and Desiree which turned out to be a toga party, complete with chariot race, which Jeannette won. Her prize? A wish. She wished for Lorenzo to take it easy and enjoy himself. Bah! They had a Roman feast which turned into a last chance to grab a minute with the prince to convince him either they are the right ones or someone else isn't. Guess who "isn't"? Agnese pulled him aside and told him she didn't like it that Sadie had a one-on-one date and that she was jealous. Lisa said she "didn't come there to make best friends" and she's now so self-centered and over-confident (she already has her home date all planned out - remember, she's the one who has the love plan) that it's beginning to become predictable and boring. I wish I could watch Lorenzo's face while he's watching this on television. He's in for a horrible awakening if he chooses Lisa. There wasn't too much emphasis on the drinking, but there was more drinking.
Jennifer had the last date, a one-on-one with Lorenzo. They drove through Rome in a horse and carriage and saw all the sights. Perhaps Jennifer didn't know what the Vatican, or the Spanish Steps was, or the via Condotti, but she sure passed the "I'm impressed" test. Perhaps she's a good actress. She looked genuinely pleased, if not a little bewildered, and happy to be there. Their rooftop dinner looked so romantic and they talked about her parents and other stuff while holding hands. She got a rose and then got to throw coins in the Trevi Fountain and make a wish. Meanwhile, back at the villa, the girls appeared to have had many drinks, after which Lisa and Desiree ran around the garden in their bikinis and then skinny dipped in the pool. Just the kind of behavior of a princess, no?
Later, Lisa had a little chat with Lorenzo and she wore the diamond earrings he gave her and said that she was "totally okay with him dating the other girls" - yeah, right. Desiree came to him to tell him that she feels something for him, feels the chemistry, and about her "proudness" at being there. Vocab girl, vocab. Jeannette said she was taking this process to heart. All last-minute attempts to convince him that they are the one.
Finally, the rose ceremony, and everyone looked solemn and uneasy except Agnese, who had a huge smile. Lisa looked smug. The first rose went to Lisa and the others looked gobsmacked and shocked. The second rose went to Agnese to which Desiree uttered, "Damn, I'm shocked". That meant that Jeannette and Desiree were going home.
The show ended with a sneak peak at next week's home dates where someone at Lisa's house asks Lorenzo if he knows about her secret plan. He sees a wedding dress and wedding magazines and I wonder if he realizes the mistake he's made. So, next time it's meet-the-families day, and oh, Erica comes back again, to talk about the women. The preview had her reclining in a bubble bath wearing her tiara, naturally.
I can hardly wait to hear her whiny voice drone on and on about the bitchy girls and how she should have been the one, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, whine, whine, sulk, sulk.
October 31, 2006
Well, not too painful a night last night, thankfully. Actually, it wasn't half bad as it was more a travel show than anything else. With a little kissing. So, there are four women left and last night it was time to meet the parents.
First up was Sadie's parents in San Diego. A seemingly religious and tight family, Lorenzo fitted in well, I thought. Both parents questioned him about his intentions and he responded thoughtfully and came across as a pretty nice guy. He seemed to be relaxed and have a good time. Lorenzo said that he could see where Sadie gets her qualities from, or words to that effect. Sadie is looking more and more like the winner at this stage, virgin or not.
Next up was a trip to Portland to meet Lisa's family. The prince seemed relaxed and you can see he likes being around her. Why? Lisa's best friend came over with a wedding dress for her to try on and she asked Lorenzo if he knew about her love plan. He was visibly thrown and said he was "freaked out about it". As he should be. He hadn't even met the family yet! Lisa showed her father the earrings she got, mentioning the carat weight and that they were worth $15,000! Tacky Lisa, very tacky, especially on television. Meanwhile, mother was giving Lorenzo a pilates lesson which he took in his stride. He mentioned that he was worried that Lisa was there for the wrong reasons. Finally.
The third home date was to Jennifer's family in Miami. She mentioned that her dad was "intense" and that she was an only child, that "my dad is my world" and that she needed her father's approval. At home he met the parents and her dog Tiffany. Dad wasted no time in showing Lorenzo his huge gun saying that he'd use it on the "individual that treated my daughter inappropriately", to which Lorenzo looked thrown off kilter and somewhat unnerved. Loony toons dad, I thought. What century is he living in? I hope the cops were watching this episode, and sadly, Jennifer, I think your dating days are over. Dad then asked him if he was "worthy of my little girl" to which Lorenzo stuttered and ummed and erred his answer about how he came to be a prince and how he felt about Jennifer. Although I like Jennifer, now I don't think she'd fit in with his family.
Agnese was Lorenzo's fourth and final date, in spectacular Venice. Couldn't be more romantic. Both were nervous and excited and looked happy to see one another. Agnese battled to express herself but I thought she did really well. She said she was falling for him. They walked through the Venetian streets and took a gondola ride and they looked like a good match. Both seemed relaxed and happy. Lots of passionate kissing.
Meeting the family was agonizingly uncomfortable as only the father uttered a few words in English, the rest of them just stared at the prince with Agnese translating here and there. They seemed to be impressed with Lorenzo and happy that their daughter was happy. What beautiful smiles they all had. Appropriately, the family started dancing after dinner, Venetian masks and all, which Lorenzo appeared to enjoy. I think these two would really make a good couple, despite the language barrier. If only the Italian prince could speak Italian.
Finally, back in Rome at the villa for the rose ceremony. Three roses were being given out, sending one woman home. Why drag it out for heaven's sake! Why not just make it the final episode? The first rose went to Sadie - hated the Minnie Mouse pale shoes with the dark outfit, dear - and the second rose to Jennifer, leaving Lisa and Agnese nervous and jittery. Lisa got the third rose which I thought was nonsense. If he was so freaked out at her house, why on earth didn't he eliminate her there and then? Poor Agnese, gracious in defeat and such a lady. No blubbering and whining, "It should have been me, it's not fair." This is who he should have taken home to meet his family - at least she'd have been able to natter away with his dad. Saying goodbye to each other was painful and both were brought to tears with him saying that they would need to be able to communicate (you can learn Italian, man, and she is well on her way to learning English) with each other to make it work. Didn't he realize this from the getgo? Gracious Agnese.
Next week it's overnight dates. I can't bear it. Also, Erica makes another comeback - teasers for next week's show had her saying things like, "I'd love to see him with a real woman, not a little girl" (which is why you're no longer on the show, luvvie) and "I'm like a Champagne-flavored milkshake", "I think I have things in common with Princess Diana even though she was a nanny and I wouldn't want to be one", and "She's (Agnese) like a little prostitute". Swinging on a child's swing, muttering unladylike things about the other women, reinforces why she wasn't still on the show - she's unbelievable, in the true sense of the word, and acts like a three-year-old spoiled brat - hence swinging on the swing, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
Brace yourself for her comments next week.
November 14, 2006
Thankfully there weren't any Erica comments in this episode, unless you count the final seconds of the show when she manages to squeeze in a slur or two coming up in next week's show. The reprieve we enjoyed last week was short-lived as it was business as usual last night. Not too unbearable, as there were only three dates to endure. Jennifer went to Göteborg in Sweden where they got to know each other a little better. She opened up to Lorenzo and said that she cared about him. He said he loved the way he feels when he's with her. Amusement park rides filled the day, with roller coaster rides, bumper car rides, and drinks in a literal icebox. He quizzed her about whether she would move to New York if they got together. In a heartbeat she said she would. Nighttime brought dinner and questions about whether she'd ever been in love before. She had and told him about both times.
Jennifer was offered the option of spending the night with him in the Fantasy Suite which she accepted. The suite was spectacular with strawberries and Champagne and candles. We left them in the hot tub. He said that there's "not a thing I don't like about her". My thoughts were that this date was stiff and awkward with very little chemistry. I do like Jennifer though.
Date number two was with Miss Sincerity herself. When Lorenzo met Lisa, she looked like she was wearing some floral number from the 50s, but politely, Lorenzo told her she looked great. He did voice his concerns about the wedding magazines and wedding dress on her home date, as well as her timeline for her future. He asked her about her being a fan of "The Bachelor" and which guys she liked. Unhesitatingly, she rattled off about three names. Then he asked her about her ever being in love and she answered him. He questioned her about how, after three weeks of breaking up with a boyfriend, she applied to "The Bachelor", and one of her reasons was that for "fun" she applied. Lorenzo didn't seem impressed. He asked her if she would move to New York and she ummed and erred and said that she would have "to feel things out" and that she wasn't sure she would. Big clue, Lorenzo. She didn't even give him the courtesy of reading his Fantasy Suite inivitation, she just blurted out "I know what it is, you don't have to read it. Yes."
This suite was also sumptuous but the two of them didn't appear to be very inspired with each other. To the camera she said that her family approved of Lorenzo, her dog approved of him, and "I can fall in love now" - life doesn't work this way, honey. You can't tell it what to do when you want it. They chatted a while and she admitted (to the camera) that for the first time she felt insecure, even though she always felt confident, that she'd not get a rose. She looked worried - and rightly so. "You were grilling me" she moaned to Lorenzo (if she's such a fan of the show she should have known this is a pretty serious stage for which she should have been prepared), yet he stayed.
Finally, the third and last date was to Sicily (Mazara del Vallo) in Italy. Sadie said she'd been craving some alone time with him and he said that he was so happy to see her. He said, "I could see myself falling in love with Sadie" and then listed what he felt about her. They went scuba diving in a swimming pool and swam around holding hands and had an underwater kiss. Very romantic. They both had poolside massages and then massaged each other. Were the producers deliberately putting her in seductive situations in the hope she'd crumble? Not very nice, people.
Before Lorenzo had a chance to offer Sadie the Fantasy Suite, she asked to be excused for a moment as she knew what was coming and she hadn't made up her mind about whether or not she'd accept. She didn't want to give him the wrong impression. She came back and they had dinner and chatted and they both opened up to each other. He told her there was no pressure for her to take the Fantasy Suite, that he would "love to talk to you off-camera", and that he'd respect her decision. She accepted and he led her onto a casual rooftop setting where they probably spent a good deal of time talking. Smilingly she said, "He could be the one". "Move over Jen and Lisa, he's mine," she added.
I loved the travel aspect of this show and because there wasn't a lineup of other contenders to sift through, no bitchy remarks were uttered, no back-biting, and no drunken and unruly females. The rose ceremony was emotional as Lorenzo seemed genuinely concerned and said, "I'm not the type of guy who dates three women", and, "I just want to get this over with". With that he gave the first rose to Sadie and Lisa's face said it all, although not as obvious as Gina's was. The second rose went to Jennifer, leaving Lisa the Loser, and her on her way. Yay! At last! She didn't appear to be too upset, I thought, but rather casual and in stride. It was apparent that her heart wasn't really in this and that it was just a game. She said that her biological calender and her plan for life was not her ultimate goal. She said that she really thought she'd get a rose. Did ya now? I didn't buy her story.
Lorenzo said to the remaining two blondes, "I think you both are the most outstanding women I've ever met, and I'm honored to be with both of you tonight".
Next week, and just when I thought it would be all over thereafter, is the Women Tell All episode. Oh Lord, more dirt and muckraking and bad-mouthing each other (apparently Lisa comes in for some drubbing), and of course, Erica returns to rub things in. Lorenzo's clip for the following show has him breaking down and tears running down his cheeks as he has to let one woman go. Kings have concubines, dear, keep them both. That's assuming you'll one day be a king.
November 21, 2006
I didn't want to blog on this episode, or any more "Bachelor" episodes, as I find myself being dragged down to the level of the "girls" each week. However, being the professional I am, I went ahead and sat through a relatively puke-free hour. I didn't think I could stomach any more unspeakable behavior (on camera no less - don't they have any shame?) and shrieking. First thing I noticed was that almost everyone was wearing black, except Erica, who wore an inappropriate pale pink glittery outfit, with of course, the ubiquitous tiara. Chris, the innocuous host (rather insipid, actually) rehashed the introductions, the dates; the squealing, ad infinitum. Not all of the women spoke, thankfully, just the "main players", or so they thought.
First up to the stage was Lisa and we had to endure all the poop we'd suffered over the weeks, again. A few women lashed out and Ellen told her to "live your life" when they discussed her time line. It was obvious they didn't like Lisa as they didn't hold back telling how she snubbed them and how much she irritated them. Then it was Jami's turn. "Damn, I'm princess material" she said. Not with a potty mouth you're not! Erica passed a comment which warranted Jami saying, "You are such a bitch". Erica said something about Jami being better suited to finding herself a football player or a country singer. Agnese shot back a "shut up", showing her utter contempt for this woman. I don't blame her as I would describe her as being obnoxious, self-absorbed, and to be avoided at all costs.
Desiree had a turn to flap her gums, but sadly, she just lacks class and sophistication (I think the only ones of the entire bunch who have an ounce of class and sophistication, are the two who are left, and of course, Agnese) and opened her mouth to utter some forgettable chirp. Next was a clip of Kim elegantly passing out on the beach to which she just smiled and said, "At least I was original." - see what I mean about lacking class and sophistication? And why do these women have to whine so much? It's very unbecoming.
Agnese was next up on stage and when she said, "Agnese, Borghesi sounds good". I couldn't have agreed with her more. I think she's by far the only one with breeding and class. Erica couldn't help herself, and after clips of her saying how humiliated and embarrassed she was not to have received a rose, and that Agnese was "like a little prostitute" were shown, Agnese shot back with, "If Lorenzo chose Erica, then I don't want him," or words to that effect - quite right! Erica came back with "I'm perfect the way I am, why should I change?" - see what I mean? Could you imagine spending the rest of your life with someone like this? Purgatory, I would imagine. She then went on to embarrass herself on national television saying how she felt as though she was on "Survivor", living in those conditions, and that Lorenzo has a Prince Charming Complex, and more. She really is stupid and empty, and that's the last I am saying on this person.
After fifteen minutes of the show I was thinking, oh please, put me out of my misery. I had better and more productive things to do in that hour. Lorenzo came on and gave his concise idea of being in love and told a few of the the women, briefly, why they weren't suitable - Jami because she was more interested in the car, the jewels, and other stuff; Erica because his values are completely different from hers, etc. He was gracious and controlled. Then we were treated to some bloopers which actually made me smile.
Finally, a quick vote on who will win Lorenzo's heart - Sadie, three and Jennifer, seven. Next week, apparently, Lorenzo loses it and bawls. One more week. Just one, and then it's over.
November 28, 2006
Woo hoo! It's over, finally! Prince Weepy made a decision, and after a quick re-run of the series, a meeting with the Italian inlaws in Rome, a disastrous meeting of the families for brunch orchestrated by Mama Lorenzo (probably not her best move), and a last-ditch attempt to convince the prince that they were "the one" kind of dates, two hours later, we had a winner.
The whole episode was fraught with nervous giggles, sighs, tears, many awkward moments, especially between the inlaws (I would have expired on the spot!), the most stunning views of Rome at night (undoubtedly the highlight of the entire show), genuine (I think) concern the Borgheses had for their son's future, the grilling of the girls by their potential future inlaws (Mama Borghese even read both the women's palms!), an embarrassing episode with Jennifer's father's nerves (he definitely doesn't fit in with this crowd), and Lorenzo having to ask both "fathers-in-law" for their daughter's hand in marriage, should he propose to either of them: "If I were to propose to Sadie/Jen, would you give me your blessing?" You know, I think Lorenzo is quite a convincing actor, or at least able to hold things together for a while, and then he cuts loose and howls. I honestly don't blame him, really, as this whole saga isn't natural and the pressure must be unbearable with cameras in your face 24/7. Still, he signed up to do this so he had to grin and bear it all the same.
Mama Borghese also had a hand in designing the "family ring" her son was to give to his future bride. Thank goodness this woman was only there for a short time otherwise she'd have rewritten the script and taken over the director's chair. I would liked to have seen her featured earlier in the show interviewing some of the women. I'd love to have heard her opinions on Erica (my, how she'd have sucked up to Princess Amanda), her thoughts on Kim's drunken behavior, and Desiree "baybee-and-booty-shaking" immaturity, not to mention Lisa's love plan. However, the prince is in his thirties, runs the family empire, and can think for himself (though sometimes I doubted that), and should therefore be able to choose his own bride. He did say, though, that he values everything his parents have to say (they've been married for forty years so I guess they know a little about making a marriage work!) and that he hopes they can help him make a decision.
So, after all that, it was down to the wire with the women. Both looked stunning and wore their hair up. Jen wore a shimmering black full-length dress and Sadie wore a white toga-type dress - both looked fabulous and were visibly nervous.
Sadie got the boot, and despite her saying that she loved Lorenzo, she wasn't too terribly upset. She slammed the car door shut and didn't look back as she was whisked away in a limo. Jennifer, meanwhile, giggled her way through the final minutes and exuberantly accepted the Borghese ring, which was not accompanied by a marriage proposal, but rather with him having to get back to reality before he asks her to marry him. And, she got the last rose. Princess Jennifer. Princess Jennifer Borghese. Doesn't sound too bad. I have to say that I did like Lorenzo, perhaps the best of all the bachelors.
