I think this book is my new best friend!  SO easy to follow with gorgeous color illustrations that whet your artistic appetite from the get-go.  I loved that there weren't pages and pages of instructions; the artists/authors got down to business and limited the text to captions for the photos.  Brilliant!  Once again, it was encouraging to read that there aren't any rules when it comes to mixed media art, which is so liberating for the unsure, the nervous or the self-doubting wannabe artists!  That's me.  I really loved this book and am pretty sure I'll enjoy the "sequel" (101 More Mixed Media Techniques) and I feel confident in saying that this book will broaden my mixed media horizons no end.  There are chapters on Painting Backgrounds, Gesso and Mediums, Art Journaling, Stamping, Stenciling, Altering Photographs, transferring, Encaustics, Playing with Paper, and Adding Texture.  You also don't need a ton of materials, but unless you already have things like gel medium, gesso, a brayer, paint brushes, a stencil or two, molding paste, etc., then a quick bit of shopping might be necessary.  Don't go overboard as so many do; pick something, get what you don't have or use what you do have, and get busy.  There are six contributing authors/artists and all have done great work!
