Initially I was a little disappointed as I was expecting more of a "food book," as both authors are cookbook writers, but as it turns out, it's more a travelogue.  The upside was that I don't really mind travelogue-type books as I love travel myself.  These two intrepids took themselves off on a second honeymoon around the world, courtesy of their frequent-flyer miles, for about 13 weeks.  Not as easy as just booking legs to here and there.  Their starting point was Albuquerque, NM to Bali, and then on to Australia, New Caledonia, Singapore, Thailand, India, China, South Africa, France, and Brazil.  Pretty impressive , and in my case, daunting.  (I suffer from claustrophobia, and I hate flying.)  I naturally started off reading the South African leg of their trip, as I'm from Cape Town, which was one of their stops.  I knew exactly what they saw and wrote about.  Overall, they write about their sightseeing adventures as well as what they ate, and even give a recipe at the end of the chapters along with useful contact addresses and websites.  I chuckled at their planning and getting ready stories - so true.  While they ate and ate and ate (to the point of nausea for me, I would imagine), their depictions of not only the food, wine, and drinks was interesting, I also found their reporting on the sights and sounds and people alluring and eloquent.  I'm sure Flat Stanley enjoyed things too.

Conclusion - A delightful trip around the world, eating all the way!
