Backyard Birds of California - How to Identify and Attract the Top 25 Birds
by Bill Fenimore
Gibbs Smith, Publisher
ISBN 978-1-4236-0348-1
Published August 2008 - Softcover - 96 pages - $9.95

Books such as this one are among my favorite because you get to see the birds we take for granted close up.  Even though this book is about birds in California, of the birds pictured here, I have seen most here in Colorado.  Which ones?  Bush Tit, American Goldfinch, House Finch, Dark-Eyed Junco, House Sparrow, Downy Woodpecker, Black-headed Grosbeak, Bullock's Oriole, American Robin, Western Scrub Jay, Mourning Dove, Northern Flicker, and American Crow, among others.  (See my website.)  Apart from the usual bird seed people put out, there are also trees and shrubs you can plant to attract certain types of birds, and Bill Fenimore gives interesting advice on bird boxes and bird baths.  This book tells you where (maps) to find certain birds, what to feed them with to attract them to your part of the country, their size, behavior, habitat, song, and more.
Conclusion - Invaluable to any one who appreciates the birds in their backyard.
