The title alone sounds interesting, and the book offers very different kinds of cakes to make.  I like the taste of some alcoholic drinks in food (wine in a casserole), but never gave much thought to baking with alcohol.  [However, I do like a brandy tart!]  Lucy Baker's book covers Ingredients; The Alcohol Alphabet; Have Your Cake and Drink it Too; Pies and Tarts à la Booze; Raiding the Bar and the Cookie Jar; Sticky, Saucy, and Spiked: Spoon Desserts, and Lush and Fruity Desserts.  Sounds wonderful to say the least.  Whether it's loaf cakes you like to make, cupcakes, pies, torte, a galette, biscotti, brownies, or even just cookies, you'll find something to make on these pages.  Lucy's ideas are fun and it's an easy way to liven up your repertoire.  Some recipes are twists on old favorites, and some are new to me.  Some of her recipes that appealed to me include: Molten Chocolate Orange Cake (Grand Marnier); Southern Comfort Red Velvet Cake; Sachertorte (apricot brandy); Margarita Meringue Pie (sounds divine), and Sherried Date Crumble Bars with Almond and Orange.  Reading this book made me dream about having my own fully equipped kitchen so I can make some of these delicious recipes.  If you're thirsty after all these cakes, try a cocktail, like Southern Peach or Clearly Cosmo or even Butterscotch Hot Chocolate.

Conclusion - A fantastic selection of baked goodies with a splash of booze.  Scrummy.
