I Almost Killed George Burns!
by Andy Nulman
ECW Press
ISBN 1-55022-464-6
Published September 2001 - Paperback - 209 pages

Billed by the publishers as, "If this book doesn't make you laugh OUT LOUD, just send it back to us for a full refund", but I'm afraid for me, it didn't work out that way.  I chuckled here and there but never laughed out loud or was moved to even just burst out laughing.  This is basically the recollections of Andy Nulman's escapades at "Just For Laughs, the world's largest comedy event", in Montreal, Canada.  He was the CEO and he eloquently tells stories about all the great comics he met, from Roseanne to John Candy, Jerry Lewis, Jim Carrey, and Monty Python's Graham Chapman, among many others, including George Burns, after whom the book is titled.  Now, I know about most of the people he mentions, and it's a nice bit off background info on many people, but I found it rather ho-hum in too many places.  I did however, enjoy the crazy story of his 15 years at this prestigious comedy venue and it must have been one heck of a ride.  How he had time for a family is beyond me.  I did rather enjoy the Milton Berle chapter.
Conclusion - A MUST for any comedy fan looking for information on some of the best known comics of our time. BookBrowser
