Making Yourself at Home - Finding Your Style and Putting It All Together
This lady is elegance and grace personified. She has always been the classy and sophisticated person she is today. And so versatile! Not only is she up to her eyeballs in creative ventures, she's an award-winning actress, a writer, an artist, fashion designer, children's advocate, a wife and mother, dancer, and more. In this charming and very do-able book, she shows us mere mortals how to be elegant and charming without putting ourselves in hock. It's the simple touches that make all the difference. Jane says we should "bring the outdoors indoors" and use what we find in our surroundings to decorate the home. Hers has an ocean theme with lots of shells (she lives in Malibu). Not being a lover of "clutter" myself, I do admit to taking a liking to the many "tablescapes" in her book. Usually I look at clutter and cringe at the thought of dusting everything. It all looks so nice but the reality of housework has to be considered. My favorite photos of Jane's home are: the stunningly elegant sitting room and dining room on pages 28/29; the wonderful idea of having bookshelves on either side of the bed on pages 108 and 115, and her daughter Katie's room on page 145. I do like Jane's varied taste, and you can glean many ideas and much inspiration for your own home from this book.
