What to make, what to make, what to make? The eternal question when it comes to deciding what food to serve. Small is all the rage at the moment, even though it does seem a little time-consuming compared to making say, a big pot of stew. However, there's nothing as enchanting as a colorful selection of Italian snacks. Jason Denton and Kathryn Kellinger, acclaimed restaurateur and writer respectively, have put together this great book, and they cover Aperitivo; New Year's Day; Fireside Snacks; Ski Snacks; Dinner at Home; Picnic Lunch; Pizza; Backyard Bocce; Lunch by the Pool; Prosecco Party; Late-Afternoon Lunch; World Cup Final, and Antipasti. Quite a selection of "any occasion" snacks. Their Introduction says, "What all of these snacks share is a simplicity of preparation and an Italian approach toward ingredients." I fancied Eggs Baked in Tomato Sauce; Cabbage and Pancetta Bruschetta; Spiedini of Pork and Fennel; Panini of Grilled Portobellos, Truffled Mayonnaise, and Fontina (mmmmm), and Hard-Boiled Eggs with Anchovy Dressing. For years Italians have come up with pretty plates of delicious little somethings, which are fairly quick to prepare and which will delight family and/or guests.
Illustrated. No nutritional guides.
Conclusion - A great source of inspiration for your next get together.
